Spanish Grand Prix 2019 – Qualifying Analysis

The Qualifying on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya witnessed another 1-2 Mercedes start for the race with Valtteri Bottas as the Provisional Pole Sitter.

Robert Kubica and George Russell were once again P20 and P19, respectively. But for the first time in this season, Kubica will start in front of his teammate due to Russell getting a 5-place grid penalty for a gear-box change.
   Giovinazzi who just can’t get a hang of his car was on P18. Lance Stroll managed a P17 and as for Nico Hülkenberg, it was sadly a P16.

Q2

Sergio Pérez secured a P15 and the Alfa Romeo’s Star Kimi Räikkönen could only manage a P14. As for Alex Albon it was P12 today. The hometown hero Carlos Sainz who had never been out-qualified by his teammate on this track was on P13 while his teammate Lando Norris was on P11, thus breaking his record.

Q3

Daniel Ricciardo finished at P10. Unfortunately, he will drop down 3 grid positions for tomorrow’s race for the incident in Baku. The Toro Rosso frontman bagged a P9. Haas is finally in the game and their racing drivers Grosjean and Magnussen will start at P7 and P8, respectively.
Red Bull is finally able to compete with Ferrari. While Gasly managed a P6, his teammate Max Verstappen finished at P4, separating the 2 Ferraris. Charles Leclerc, who ended up damaging the floor of his car, could just not get in right and only managed a P5. However, his teammate Sebastian Vettel will start at P3 tomorrow.
Yet another 1-2 Mercedes start this season. Bottas got his 3rd consecutive pole position this season. Not only did Valtteri beat his teammate and World Champion Lewis Hamilton, but also got a Provisional Pole with a whopping time of 1:15:406.
